Mood and Tone Boards

This past week, me and my group created some mood and tone boards to create a better vision of our characters and setting. We wanted to create a visual representation to help us figure out what we’d want our overall film to look like. We included mood boards for all our main cast’s personalities and style. Also, our group created boards for how we wanted each scene to feel.

First Victim

As a placeholder name, we’ve decided to call the girl who we see through the First Person Point of View the “First Victim.” This is because she is the first person in our film that gets killed by the demon.

We’d like her to be viewed as a depressing, sickly person who is mentally ill. This is to help show the viewer into thinking that she has gone insane and that the creature is just a part of her imagination. Then, later when she dies, it is confirmed that the demon is in fact real. We’re planning to have her dress in casual clothes or maybe even a sweater. The pills are an important prop we wanted to make sure to include because it shows that she is likely disassociating through each “blink” (transition).

Person A

In the last scene for our current script, we had two characters walking in a school hallway. One of them is Person A. Just like for our First Victim, we don’t have an official name for her yet, so this is our placeholder name.

For this character, my group wanted to base it off of me, because of my simple style and wonderful personality. We decided on this because we wanted our characters to have very different personalities, so that their interactions would be more intriguing. So far we’re thinking about dressing Person A in lululemon and jeans, and giving her either a purse or a Stanley cup to hold as a prop. Person A is going to act a little more judgemental than the other characters, but she’s also going to be more lighthearted and nonchalant.

Person B

Person B is a bit of a different character who interacts with Person A in the last scene of our current script. But once again, we haven’t decided on an official name yet.

Person B is considered to be the “opposite” of Person A. This is mostly based on their style and aesthetic. While Person B is more similar to the First Victim in terms of what the mood boards portray, what makes Person B different is her more edgy, they both take different forms of drugs, the First Victim’s are prescribed. We’re thinking about wanting her clothes to be inspired by both grunge and emo subcultures. She’ll be more open-minded compared to Person A, but will still lack some sympathy for others and will act pretty self-centered. A prop we’re thinking of could be a Monster Energy Drink, or even a cigarette.

Locations (Part 1)

This is a mix of all the locations in our film that the First Victim is in.

We want our shots for this part of the film to be very dark and uncanny, We want the viewer to feel trapped and isolated, so they can understand how the First Victim feels when interacting with the demon. So we made sure to focus on images that matched that description.

Locations (Part 2)

This is a mood board showing how we’d like our last scene in the script to look like.

Our group wants a bit more upbeat setting to contrast with the first part of the film. This is to emphasize the psychological pressure and horridness the First Victim just faced. This part of our script is the beginning of our short film. From here, the rest of the movie will begin to get darker and darker in terms of horror.
